Mary Beatrice Charles

President

Dr. Charles is a Pediatrician at Muhimbili National Hospital with her working station being the neonatal unit. She participated in developing the hospital’s neonatal guideline with the team of doctors in the unit. She held a position of Head of Department, Pediatrics and Child Health at Muhimbili National Hospital from January 2014 to January 2020. Dr. Charles has attended on job training courses that enriched her knowledge and experience in her medical practice. These courses include, to mention a few: Essential newborn care, HIV/AIDS – infant feeding and Mother to Child Transmission Prevention, Priorities in Perinatal Care, Global Health Course, Health Economic Evaluation and Health Care Financing. Dr. Charles was born in Kondoa in 1972, is married with two children and currently resides in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She loves to read and take care of children.

Zaitun Bokhary

Vice President, President Elect

Dr. Bokhary is the Head of Pediatric surgical unit at Muhimbili National Hospital, Tanzania but also an Executive member of Global Initiative Children Surgery (GICS). She has become a household name in Tanzania for participating in separation of conjoined twins and other unique cases. Dr. Bokhary is also passionate about educating and empowering other women. She is married and blessed with three beautiful children.

Furaha Prosper Kyesi

Executive Secretary

Dr. Kyesi is a conscientious and professional Pediatrician and Public Health Specialist with extensive experience in Child survival interventions. She has been working with Immunization and Vaccine Development (IVD) Program as the head of Routine Immunization and Service Delivery Unit.

Lilian R Mnabwiru

Assistant Treasurer

Dr. Mnabwiru is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist specialized in fertility at Muhimbili National Hospital, Tanzania. She is also the Honorable Secretary General for the Medical Association in Tanzania (MAT). Dr. Mnabwiru is a mother of a young lovely girl named Charity.

Maryam Amour

Publicity Secretary

Dr. Amour is an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Community Health, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. Her main areas of interest are infections diseases particularly TB/HIV, non-communicable diseases and adolescent health. Dr.Amour has been actively involved in advocacy and mass screening campaigns of breast and cervical cancer in Tanzania.

Marina Alois Njelekela

Executive Committee Member, Chair of Well Women Clinic

Dr. Njelekela is a Honorary Lecturer of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences and Chief of Party of USAID Boresha Afya Southern Zone Program, managed by Deloitte Consulting Limited. The program is a prevention, care and treatment program being funded by PEPFAR through USAID and is implemented in six regions of Morogoro, Iringa, Njombe, Ruvuma, Mtwara and Lindi. She served as the first female Executive Director of the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Tanzania. During her tenure, she improved the quality of health services, increased hospital revenue and advanced the number of specialized care in the hospital.
Besides her program and hospital management expertise, Dr. Njelekela also has a strong research capability. She worked at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) as a faculty member for more than ten years and contributed immensely into research conduct and publications in the field of communicable as well as non-communicable diseases. She has published over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Mwanaidi Amiri Msuya

Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA) Coordinator

Dr. Msuya is a highly professional Pediatrician and Child Health Specialist working with Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) – Mloganzila. She is the head of Pediatric and Child Health Department and the co-chairperson of Muhimbili-Mloganzila quality improvement committee.

Kokuhabwa Irene Mukurasi

Dr. Mukurasi is a public health specialist with 7 years experience in issues related to blood safety by supervising all zonal activities. She also has 3 years experience working with the Ministry of health on matters related to surveillance of diseases of public health importance. Her main interests are on surveillance and Research

Matilda Ngarina

Dr. Ngarina is the head of Reproductive Endocrinology and Assisted fertility Unit at Muhimbili National hospital where she is employed as a senior Medical specialist I. She is also a Honorary Lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences and the President of the Association of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Tanzania. She is an active researcher and conducts research in reproductive health and PMTCT of HIV. She has several scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals with high impact and she has presented her scientific work in international and local scientific conferences. Dr. Ngarina is married and a mother to one child.

Magdalena Lyimo

Dr. Lyimo is the Program Manager for the National Blood Transfusion Service in Tanzania. She has been involved in developing the National transfusion policy and guidelines. She is also an Honorary Lecturer at the Department of Hematology and Blood Transfusion at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. She does research in Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and Cell Biology.

Amida Kolombola

Dr. Kolombola is a qualified Pediatric and Child Health Specialist with experience and passion in newborn care. Currently, she is working at Muhimbili National Hospital in the newborn unit.
