Professional Experience

Dr. Amour is a physician scientist at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), Tanzania, where she also serves as the head of Internationalization and Convocation. Her professional interests focus on infectious diseases, particularly TB/HIV, adolescent health, and global health security.
Currently, Dr. Amour is a principal investigator on a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded grant examining new methods for active case finding for tuberculosis (TB) among adolescents and their household contacts. She previously served as a co-investigator in a Phase 2 vaccine clinical trial for the prevention of TB infection among adolescents in Tanzania. Dr Amour has also conducted multiple epidemiological studies on adolescents living with HIV.Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Amour has been engaged in advocacy and public education on COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccines through various platforms. She later served as the principal investigator in a nationwide study examining the acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine among healthcare workers and communities in Tanzania. Dr. Amour was also a member of the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG) in Tanzania and was involved in HPV vaccine advocacy.
Dr. Amour is a member of the Medical Women’s Association of Tanzania (MEWATA) and has actively participated in organizing nationwide mass screening campaigns for breast and cervical cancer for over 10 years. In her role as a MEWATA member and senior lecturer, Dr. Amour has mentored the research of over 50 junior scientists in Tanzania and beyond. She has also been involved in strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) working on entrepreneurship, climate change, women’s rights, and gender-based violence prevention in Tanzania.
Dr. Amour serves as an editor for PLOS Global Public Health Journal. She is also a board member of the Benjamin Mkapa Foundation and a member of the technical advisory panel of the Pandemic Fund, under the World Bank.
