OUR STORY _

MEWATA's Reproductive Health & Rights Program

Reproductive health is a fundamental human right. At MEWATA, we work tirelessly to ensure every woman, girl, and adolescent in Tanzania has the information, access, and agency to make informed decisions about their bodies, health, and futures. Through clinical services, community education, and steadfast advocacy, we break down barriers and build a world where reproductive rights are a lived reality for all.

Our Multifaceted Approach

We tackle reproductive health holistically through three interconnected pillars:

1. Education for Empowerment
We start with knowledge, the foundation of all rights.

  • We provide Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) to adolescents in and out of schools, fostering healthy decision-making.

  • We engage entire communities—including men and religious leaders—in dialogues about family planning, maternal health, and harmful practices.

  • We lead targeted campaigns to end Child Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), protecting girls’ health and futures.

2. Integrated Clinical Services
We provide confidential, high-quality care that respects a woman’s choices.

  • Full-Spectrum Family Planning: We offer a complete range of contraceptive methods with expert counseling to support informed choice.

  • Safe Motherhood: We promote and provide skilled antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care.

  • GBV Response & Care: A core service, we offer life-saving clinical management for survivors of sexual violence, including medical treatment, psychological first aid, and legal referrals.

  • Integrated HIV Services: We incorporate testing, counseling, and PMTCT into all our reproductive health services.

  • Post-Abortion Care: Within the legal framework, we provide essential, compassionate medical care for complications and offer post-care family planning.

3. Advocacy for Systemic Change
We use our medical expertise to influence policies that affect women’s lives.

  • We advocate for improved adolescent-friendly health services and increased government funding for reproductive health commodities.

  • We push for legal and policy reforms that uphold the sexual and reproductive rights of all Tanzanians.
