OUR STORY _
Empowering Medical Women, Transforming Health
THE MEDICAL WOMEN ASSOCIATION OF TANZANIA (MEWATA) is the premier professional organization dedicated to uniting, supporting, and advancing the careers of women doctors across the nation. We are a vibrant community of medical professionals committed to excellence in healthcare, leadership development, and advocacy for the health and well-being of all Tanzanians, particularly women and children.
Founded on the principles of solidarity and service, MEWATA has a rich history of championing the role of women in medicine. We recognize the unique perspectives and challenges faced by medical women and strive to create a powerful platform for collective growth and impact. Our association brings together medical professionals from all specializations and career stages—from pioneering consultants and researchers to dedicated general practitioners and vibrant medical students.
Our mission is multifaceted: to advocate for gender equity in the medical profession, to provide continuous professional development and mentorship for our members, and to leverage our collective expertise to influence positive change in Tanzania’s health policies and systems. Through our work, we aim to improve health outcomes, strengthen community outreach, and inspire the next generation of female healthcare leaders.
MEWATA stands as a testament to the power of women leading in health. We are not just caregivers within the clinic; we are leaders in our communities, innovators in our field, and a formidable force for a healthier, more equitable Tanzania.
