Professional Experience
Dr. Deograsia Mkapa is a medical doctor and field epidemiologist with over 10 years of experience in primary health care and public health. She has extensive expertise in disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and emergency response, having actively contributed to the detection and management of public health threats in Tanzania.
She has worked as a consultant with the Task Force for Global Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), providing technical support in Geita and Kagera regions to strengthen COVID-19 vaccine uptake.
Currently, Dr. Mkapa serves as the District Medical Officer for Bukombe District Council, where she oversees and coordinates all curative, preventive, promotive, and rehabilitative health services and programs. She is passionate about strengthening community health systems, with a particular interest in promoting vaccine acceptance and uptake, including for cervical cancer prevention.
